The Rise and Fall of Evil

November 11, 2025 by Ken Yates in Blog - Christ’s return, evil, Heb 1:13, Kingdom, Psalm 110:1
William Shirer authored a book entitled The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. As a reporter, he attended the Nuremberg rally in 1934, soon after Hitler came to power. He wrote about the spectacular sights and sounds. The rally was an impressive display of Hitler’s control of the country and of Nazi military might. Hitler towered over the large group of soldiers in

Is Jesus the Ransom for Many or for All? Matthew 20:28

November 10, 2025 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - lutron, Ransom, Redemption
…the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many (Matt 20:28; Mark 10:45). After two blogs on Jesus’ shed blood, I received an email question from Sam:   In Matthew 20:28 Jesus said that He “did not come to be served, but to serve,

Living for Eternal Rewards Is Psychologically Healthy

November 7, 2025 by Ken Yates in Blog - Bema, Matt 6:19-21, Matt 6:2, Works
Those of us who teach that believers will be rewarded for their good works in the kingdom are often attacked. We are told that living for rewards is selfish. Sometimes we are told that such desires reveal a state of spiritual immaturity. We should do good works because we love God. The Calvinist would say that good works

Isn’t the Lord’s Redemption Paying for Our Sins?

November 6, 2025 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - agarazō, bought at a price
I recently wrote two blogs in which I suggested that Jesus did not pay the penalty for our sins. See here and here.   My point was that we still reap what we sow. If we rebel against the Lord, we find ourselves, like the prodigal son, in famine and in want.   However, Barbara, who understood and agreed with what

A Great Traffic Jam

November 5, 2025 by Ken Yates in Blog - evangelism, Grace, Repentance
Recently, I was traveling north through Kentucky on I-75. My GPS didn’t see it coming, but all of a sudden I found myself in a traffic jam. Nobody was able to move. The interstate was turned into a vast parking lot. After about twenty minutes, the GPS said, “Your route is no longer available.” I had never heard it say that before.   I didn’t know what caused the interstate closure.

Another Look at the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares, Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43

November 4, 2025 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - false Christians, False Professors, true Christians, True professors
This past Sunday I was sick with a bad cold, so I stayed home, drank plenty of liquids, and rested. At one point, I turned on a TV broadcast of a sermon by Greg Laurie. He began to discuss the wheat and the tares. He said that the wheat represented “true Christians” and the tares “false Christians.” Laurie believes in Lordship Salvation,

Read the Fine Print

November 3, 2025 by Ken Yates in Blog - Assurance, Calvinism, evangelism, Lordship Salvation
We have all heard the warning: “Make sure you read the fine print.” We are told to do so whenever we enter into any agreement—for example, when we sign a contract.  My wife just experienced an example of the need to read the fine print when she received an email. She was told that her

Unity Among God’s People

October 31, 2025 by Ken Yates in Blog - Barak, Church Body, Dan 12:2, Deborah, Judges 5, rewards
In Judges 5, Deborah and Barak sing a song composed by Deborah. It recounts the victory God gave Israel, under their leadership, over their Canaanite enemies. God had told Deborah to enlist Barak as the commander of Israel’s army. God said He would defeat the Canaanites. All of Israel was to join in the fight

Are Some Believers Fruitless?

October 30, 2025 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - good works
I recently read an article (see here) suggesting that there is no Biblical evidence of believers who go through life with zero good works. The author called them “fruitless believers” and discussed five examples that might be used to support the idea of fruitless believers.  I, too, do not believe that any believer dies with

Evangelicals: Let’s Be Transparent

October 29, 2025 by Ken Yates in Blog - 1 Cor 5:1, 2 Tim 2:17-18, Acts 5:1-11, discipline, excommunication, Heb 13:6, Matt 18:15-17
I’ve recently come across something in the Evangelical world that really gets under my skin. I’ve heard about churches in which the leadership has removed a pastor, but has refused to tell the congregation why. Three recent instances come to mind. The elders of a church fired an associate pastor, saying that it was because
