A Perversion of Grace (Ephesians 2:8-9)

April 9, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Grace, Phil 2:12, Sanctification, Works
One of the greatest NT passages about grace is Eph 2:8-9. In these verses, Paul says that we have been saved by grace. It is all through faith–a person’s believing in Jesus Christ for eternal life. It was a gift of God. Paul specifically says that works played no part whatsoever in it. As a

L’arroganza della Signoria della Salvezza (2 Corinzi 13:5)

April 8, 2024 by Ken Yates in Grazia Gratuita - Luca 18:9-14, Opere, Orgoglio, Umiltà

Sin and the Fear of Hell

April 5, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Acts 16:31, Conviction, evangelism, John 3:16, Repentance
Those who oppose Free Grace Theology often say that it does not emphasize the sinfulness of the unbeliever in an acceptable way. We are told that when we evangelize, it is not enough to tell unbelievers that Jesus offers them eternal life if they will believe in Him for it. The unbeliever must first “admit

The Arrogance of Lordship Salvation (2 Corinthians 13:5)

April 3, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Humility, Luke 18:9-14, pride, Works
I recently heard a sermon by a proponent of Lordship Salvation. His name is not important because what he said applies to any proponent of that theology who speaks on the topic of eternal salvation. You have probably heard the same things I heard in this sermon, even if they were stated in different ways.

March 29, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - regionals
One of GES’ ministries is conducting regional conferences in various locations. Some people can’t attend the national conference in Texas for various reasons. These regional conferences give people interested in GES’ ministry an opportunity to attend a Free Grace conference closer to home. Each regional is a little bit different, as the hosting church has

Strength in Numbers? (Numbers 14:1-4)

March 28, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Kadesh, majority, Matthew 7:13-14, minority
A good friend, Bill Fiess, recently pointed out a small detail that makes a big statement in the account of Kadesh Barnea in the Book of Numbers. A short review of what happened there will help us understand the importance of what Bill saw in the text. The Nation of Israel was encamped at Kadesh,

Lessons from a Penitentiary

March 26, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - 2 Tim 4:8, Bema, Judgment
I like to study history. Recently, I had the opportunity to study it at a unique place: the old State Penitentiary of Idaho. It housed prisoners from the closing years of the 19th century until around 1970. When it executed people, it did so through hanging. As you might expect, there were various photos of

Regional Conference in Idaho

March 20, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Missions, regional
On Mar 9-10, GES conducted a regional conference in Boise, ID at Lake Hazel Bible Church. The topic was Jesus’ parables. We tried to pick parables that are either difficult to interpret or that are often misunderstood. In addition, I did a session on the basics of Free Grace Theology in case there were some

A Reminder (Psalm 103:15-16)

March 18, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Death, eternal life, Ps 103:15-16
Meach and Jake. For many years those two names would bring a smile to my face. I attended a military academy and had a number of different roommates. Meach and Jake were two of them. These were not their real names, but nicknames. Formal proper names didn’t fare well in that environment, and they surely

March 18, 2024 by Ken Yates in

Keep Grace in Focus at Christmas

I recently came across a rather disturbing bit of folklore: The Icelandic Yule Lads (Jólasveinar). It’s a 17th-century tale of thirteen figures, or lads, each representing a different threat, who arrive on the days leading up to Christmas. One is called Spoon-Licker. He represents the...
