A Perversion of Grace (Ephesians 2:8-9)

April 9, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Grace, Phil 2:12, Sanctification, Works
One of the greatest NT passages about grace is Eph 2:8-9. In these verses, Paul says that we have been saved by grace. It is all through faith–a person’s believing in Jesus Christ for eternal life. It was a gift of God. Paul specifically says that works played no part whatsoever in it. As a

January 15, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Assurance, boldness, Sanctification, Witness
When I was ten years old, I attended a family reunion in Kentucky. Two very distant cousins came to the reunion. They were brothers and were roughly my age. I had never met them, but we had a good time playing in a state park. They were very nice, but they were different. They both

Paul’s New Year’s Resolution (Philippians 3:10-11)

December 28, 2023 by Ken Yates in Blog - Phil 3:8-11, rewards, Sanctification
If the Lord delays His coming, we will be celebrating a new year in a few days. In our culture, it is customary to make New Year’s resolutions. In them, we commit ourselves to do something that will make our lives better. It might be to eat more healthy food, lose weight, or spend more

Giving Up Our Traditions (Titus 1:1-2)

November 24, 2023 by Ken Yates in Blog - Faith, Gal 2:20., godliness, Jude 1, Sanctification
Like many people who read this blog, I have spent a large part of my life attending Evangelical churches. Most people in these churches see the Bible as a book telling us how to make it to heaven. This is unfortunate, because most of the NT was written to believers who already have eternal life.

Abiding in Christ Is Not the Same as Being Saved

September 19, 2023 by Ken Yates in Blog - 2 Kgs 25:8-17, Fellowship, John 15:1-5, Sanctification
In John 15:5, the Lord says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in Him, bears much fruit.” This verse is often used by Bible teachers, preachers, and even seminary professors, to argue that all believers bear spiritual fruit. They maintain that “abiding in Christ” is the

Spiritual Psychological Warfare

September 5, 2023 by Ken Yates in Blog - 2 Kgs 18:17-35, mind, Rom 12:1-2, Sanctification, temptation
Every war utilizes what military people call “psyops.” It is a shortened way of saying psychological operations. This psychological warfare is an attempt to get into the heads of the enemy’s soldiers. The goal is to discourage them. This would make them less effective in fighting or maybe even convince them to give up altogether.
