What Can Eternally Secure Believers Lose? Kingdom Privileges

July 14, 2021 by Shawn Lazar in Blog - discipline, Eternal Rewards, Eternal Security, Kingdom, spirituality
When eternally secure believers sin, they cannot lose eternal life, but they can lose their eternal rewards. Not many critics of eternal security have a doctrine of eternal rewards and therefore have trouble interpreting Biblical warnings about losing those rewards. Instead, they misinterpret those passages as references to losing salvation. For example, in Jesus’ letters

Degrees of Greatness in the Kingdom (Matthew 5:19)

October 22, 2020 by Shawn Lazar in Blog - greatness, Kingdom, Matthew, Michael Eaton, rewards
Does your church or tradition believe in the doctrine of eternal rewards? It is the key to so many subjects in theology and to so many passages of Scripture. For example, did you know that Jesus taught there would be different degrees of greatness in His kingdom? In the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord

Waiting for the Christmas Star — Rev 22:16-17

December 27, 2018 by Kenneth Yates in Blog - Christmas, David, Kingdom, star
We just celebrated Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ. When we remember His birth, part of the story involves a star that the wise men from the east saw (Matt 2:2). They followed it to Judea and came to Jerusalem to meet the King. We don’t know how they knew that that star would

Mark’s Unique Parable: World Changers (Mark 4:26-29)

October 24, 2018 by Kenneth Yates in Blog - Armageddon, Joel, Kingdom, Seed
In Mark 4:26-29, we find a parable of the Lord unique to Mark’s Gospel. It doesn’t get much attention. I think the attention it does receive is often superficial. A major reason for this neglect is that this parable is often treated more or less as a repetition of the Parable of the Four Soils

August 22, 2018 by Shawn Lazar in Blog - Eden, Kingdom, Lord’s Prayer, Prayer
I’ve been preaching through the Lord’s Prayer at church, and in my studies, I keep hearing echoes of Eden through these petitions. Our Father which art in heaven, We address our Father in heaven, because in Gen 1:1 God created all things, including us. He is not part of creation, but over creation, in heaven.

Everlasting Salvation in Daniel

April 25, 2018 by Shawn Lazar in Blog - Daniel, eternal life, Kingdom, Messiah, Prophecy
Was it normal for Jewish people to believe that God’s salvation is eternal? Was it normal for them to think of the coming Messiah in “eternal” terms? Was everlasting salvation on their radar? Consider some verses in Daniel. Daniel prophesied about a coming kingdom. How long did he say that kingdom would last? “In

Different groups in the Kingdom?

October 20, 2016 by Kenneth Yates in Blog - Hebrews, Kingdom
In my previous three posts, it was pointed out that the author of Hebrews believed in the eternal security of the believer. A believer cannot lose or forfeit eternal life. But the author also recognized that a Christian is also capable of committing serious sins. The warning passages in Hebrews are therefore addressed to believers,
