Different Motives for Serving the Lord

September 4, 2025 by Ken Yates in Blog - Discipleship, Fear, fear; rewards, Gratitude, love, motivation
I spent a lot of years in the military. I met a lot of soldiers. If you asked them why they signed up to serve, you would get many different answers. Some did it for love of country. Others for the steady paycheck. Some craved the challenge, the camaraderie, or the chance to travel. Many

Recognize That You Are a Sinner

December 12, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Faith, Gratitude, love, Luke 7:36-50, Repentance
On many occasions, I have heard evangelists say that the unbeliever must recognize that he is a sinner before he can be saved. When unbelievers realize this, they will feel sorrow for their many sins. That is where repentance comes into play. It is like a two-step process prior to believing: One must admit that

Thanksgiving Day After Special Edition
1 Thess 4:13, 1 Tim 2:1-8, Gratitude, Heb 13:15-16, joy, Lord’s Supper, Passover, Psalms, Remembrance, Thanksgiving
Welcome to Grace in Focus radio. Today, Bob Wilkin and Ken Yates continue thoughts from yesterday’s episode about thanksgiving. There is a vital theme in both the Old and New Testaments of remembrance. As Christians, we should have a store of great memories as we reflect on Christ’s redemptive work and on God’s past faithfulness. When it comes to things that cause grief, such as the death of a loved one, there is a difference in being thankful for something and being thankful in it. There is a connection between praising God and thanking God. Please join us for this episode!

Why Do Many People Have So Much Confusion About Assurance of Eternal Salvation?
Assurance, certainty, Confusion, Doubt, Facts, Faith, Fear, Feelings, Grace, Gratitude, Jn 4:10, motivation
Welcome to Grace in Focus radio. Today Bob and Ken will discuss how Lordship Salvation falls short, especially in the area of assurance. In fact, could it be that many pastor/teachers who are proponents of Lordship Salvation are dead wrong when they suggest that having some doubt and therefore being on a “quest for assurance” regarding one’s eternal salvation, is better because it keeps us motivated to walk more uprightly, etc. But Bob and Ken say no–they explain how this is motivation by fear. Wouldn’t it be better and is it not more powerful and is it not God’s plan for us to be motivated by love and gratitude towards God and his grace. So join us as we explain how and why to keep grace in focus.

Give thanks for the little things

November 24, 2016 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - Gratitude, Thanksgiving
by Bob Wilkin Yesterday I heard a good sermon by Luis Rodriguez. Speaking from Psalm 100 he said that we should be thankful people. All. The. Time. We should thank the Lord for everything, for our food, our housing, our jobs, our health, our families, and so forth. Luis is right, of course. As children

The Wonder of Gratitude for Grace

September 28, 2016 by GES Webmaster in Blog - Grace, Gratitude, Shawn Lazar
by Shawn Lazar, excerpted from an article in the September/October edition of Grace in Focus We All Are Grateful When People Do Us Favors Of course, it is common enough to appreciate the small favors people do for us. Social life is filled with little kindnesses that differentiate friendship from mere civility. But such courtesies
