August 8, 2025 by Ken Yates in Blog - Honor, Humility, Phil 2:3, Rom 12:10
In Rom 12:10, Paul tells the believers in Rome to be “…kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another.” Paul wants them to manifest brotherly love towards each other. This would include understanding the worth of their fellow believers, as well as looking out for their welfare.  The

The Job of the Disciple

September 30, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Disciple, Humility, John the Baptist, Mark 6:12-13, Mark 6:30-43
In Mark 6:12-13, Jesus sends the twelve disciples to the nation of Israel. It would have been very exciting to be a part of that group. They preached the same message that John the Baptist and the Lord had preached. Jesus was the Christ. Those who believed in Him for it would receive eternal life.

Working as a Team

June 13, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Church, Humility, Rom 12:3-5, Spiritual Gifts
Many of us played on a sports team when we were younger. My favorite sport was basketball, and I was on a team throughout my high school years. There were a couple of things that stood out for all of us who played. I think that even a casual fan would observe the same things.

The Arrogance of Lordship Salvation (2 Corinthians 13:5)

April 3, 2024 by Ken Yates in Blog - Humility, Luke 18:9-14, pride, Works
I recently heard a sermon by a proponent of Lordship Salvation. His name is not important because what he said applies to any proponent of that theology who speaks on the topic of eternal salvation. You have probably heard the same things I heard in this sermon, even if they were stated in different ways.

The Christmas Manger (Luke 2:7)

December 18, 2023 by Ken Yates in Blog - Caesar, Humility, Rom 12:3, Theophilus
We are all familiar with the fact that Jesus was placed in a manger after He was born. I think most of us think of a small wooden structure in which owners of animals would place hay for those animals to eat. Church tradition tells us that Jesus was born in a cave and that

Is God’s Grace Ever Deserved? Also: Is Repentance Required to Have Everlasting Life?
1 Pet 5:5, Acts 11:18, Deserved, Eph 2:8-9, Favor, Grace, Humility, Jas 4:6, John 3:16, Merited, Repentance, Rom 11:6, Unmerited
Welcome to the Grace in Focus radio. Today, Bob Wilkin and Dave Renfro are answering two questions. Is God’s grace ever deserved? We say that saving grace is unmerited, but are there some Biblical instances where it seems grace is given by meriting it? The other question is about repentance. Is repentance required to have everlasting life? Please listen for some Biblical answers to these questions.

Tell the Janitor to Come Up Here (Luke 14:7-11)

November 29, 2023 by Ken Yates in Blog - Bema, Humility, rewards
When I was in college, I attended one of our nation’s military service academies. Naturally, we studied our nation’s heroes. All the buildings on campus were named after such men. These men had shown extraordinary courage in the face of danger during our country’s wars. As cadets, we were incredibly busy. We went to class,
