That is the title of Chapter 4 in my new book, The Gospel Is Still Under Siege. (We will release it on May 22 at our annual conference, though it will be for sale on our website around May 15.) In the book, I give this explanation: “By good Christians, I am referring to people

How Are Faith and Works Related After the Acquiring of Eternal Salvation?
Faith and works, Gal 5:6
How are faith and works related? Today on Grace in Focus radio, Bob and Shawn will be answering this question. The guys will draw some distinctions between faith and works, especially as it relates to Christian living. They will first unpack Galatians 5:6ff in light of this discussion. Afterwards, Bob will address the content of faith in regards to discipleship, and how that differs from the content of saving faith. These and many more issues will be discussed on the show. We hope you can join us as we strive to keep Grace in Focus.

Are Good Works Needed to Prove You Are a True Believer?

June 2, 2021 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - Faith and works, James 2:14-17, James 2:18
A reader named CM sent in this interesting email. There is an implicit question at the end regarding faith and works. Repenting is turning away from sin by turning to Christ.  Jesus said, “either you are with Me, or you or against Me”.   Faith is a decision to respond to the gospel; acknowledging that our

How Do We Know That Saving Faith Requires No Works on Our Part?

April 12, 2021 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - 1 Corinthians 10:12, Faith and works
Recently I wrote a blog entitled, “Understanding Saving Faith Is Not Like Breaking the Enigma Code.” I argued that saving faith is simply being convinced that the Lord Jesus Christ guarantees everlasting life that cannot be lost to all who believe in Him for that life. You can see that blog here. J. H. read

James–Part 3–James 2:14 (cont.)
Faith and works, Jas 2:14, NT Wisdom Literature, Salvation, Save
Welcome to Grace in Focus Radio. Currently, we are in a series where we explore the different meanings of the word "saved" by looking at five books in the new testament. Today, we will hear Bob and Shawn continue to discuss James, giving special attention to 2:14. Martin Luther famously called the epistle of James an "epistle of straw;" this is, in part, due to his struggle to harmonize passages such as 2:14 with the rest of the new testament. Was Luther right? Should we just throw this epistle out and ignore it? On the show, we will hear the guys address this tough text, and hopefully shed some light on how to harmonize it with the truths found elsewhere in the bible. We hope you can join us as we strive to keep grace in focus.

Do We Always Act Consistently with What We Believe?

March 21, 2019 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - Faith and works, James 2:14-26, Romans 12:2
Here is an email question I just received: I am wrestling with a question about faith that I’m hoping you can shed some light on for me. I’ve heard it said often that our actions are always a product of our belief. For example, if I believe that I should love my wife, then I
