The Lord Opened Her Heart – Acts 16:14

September 1, 1995 by Bob Wilkin in Grace in Focus Articles
The Issue: God’s Part and Our Part in Salvation What is God’s part and what is our part in salvation? There are few more difficult subjects than this one. One extreme is to so emphasize God’s sovereignty as to totally eliminate any human role in salvation at all. Reformed theology does this. It suggests that

Work Out Your Salvation

July 1, 1995 by GES Webmaster in Grace in Focus Articles
by Perry Brown I have sometimes heard Christians go into interpretative gymnastics when confronted with the command in Phil 2:12 to “work out your salvation with fear and trembling.” The explanation I remember hearing most is that “we can only work out a salvation that God has already worked in.” In other words, Paul was

Love The Lord—Or Else – 1 Corinthians 16:22

July 1, 1995 by Bob Wilkin in Grace in Focus Articles
Recently I ventured into the world of the Internet. I carefully dipped my big toe in the waters of a bulletin board on Lordship Salvation. It has been very interesting. In one posting two people were discussing Paul’s anathema in 1 Cor 16:22. There Paul says, “If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ,

The Power of Grace

July 1, 1995 by GES Webmaster in Grace in Focus Articles
by Robert Perkins Free Grace Theology is a system that concerns itself with the purity of the Gospel message of salvation through faith alone in Christ alone. The sixteenth century reformers coined the term sola fide in distinguishing their soteriology from Rome’s, but how does faith alone affect individuals today? Is the current debate between

Believers and the Bema

May 1, 1995 by GES Webmaster in Grace in Focus Articles
This is a small excerpt of an article which will appear in the Spring 1995 Journal of the Grace Evangelical Society. by Earl Radmacher There are many people today who are rightfully distressed by the level of living of many of their fellow Christians, at least those who profess life in Christ. They see them

He Who Believes And Is Baptized Will Be Saved – Mark 16:16

May 1, 1995 by Bob Wilkin in Grace in Focus Articles
From 1974 to 1978 I was involved in evangelistic outreach ministry at two universities: Arkansas State University (1974-76) and North Carolina State University (1976-78). I often ran into students who believed that in order to go to heaven you had to be baptized. One of the passages they cited was Mark 16:15-16. 15And He said

A Comparison of Justification and Sanctification

May 1, 1995 by GES Webmaster in Grace in Focus Articles
Justification* Sanctification Justification is free (John 4:1). Sanctification in costly (Luke 14:25-33). Justification is instantaneous (John 3:8). Sanctification is a life-long process (John 8:31). Justification is by faith (Eph 2:8). Sanctification is by faithfulness (1 Cor 4:2). Justification is not of works (Eph 2:9). Sanctification is of works (Eph 2:10). Justification involves Christ’s love for

I Will Not Blot Out His Name

March 1, 1995 by Bob Wilkin in Grace in Focus Articles
He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. -Revelation 3:5 Can a believer lose his salvation or be erased from the Book of Life if he does not

Keep It Clear And Simple

January 1, 1995 by GES Webmaster in Grace in Focus Articles
This article is excerpted and slightly adapted from an article entitled “How to Share the Gospel Clearly,” which appeared in the Spring 1994 issue of the Journal of the Grace Evangelical Society. This portion of the article is taken from pp. 56-59, 65. by Charlie Bing Introduction What does a person have to believe in

Demas Has Forsaken Me

January 1, 1995 by Bob Wilkin in Grace in Focus Articles
Demas was a trusted member of the apostle Paul’s ministry team. Paul said of him, “Epaphras, my fellow prisoner greets you, as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow laborers” (Philemon 23-24). Demas is even mentioned before Luke, author of Luke and Acts! Paul mentions him again in Col 4:14, also in a positive light.

“Have I Shown You My Iron Cross?”

I recently heard a story that I’m pretty confident is true. Most of us have seen pictures of the warehouses at Auschwitz. The Nazis collected all the personal effects—shoes, clothes, jewelry, toys, etc.—of those who died...

What Is Eschatological Salvation, and Do You Have It?

I don’t remember hearing the expression eschatological salvation when I was studying at Dallas Theological Seminary. But over the past thirty years or so I’ve noticed that expression occurring increasingly in the commentary literature. Some pastors are...
