Last February, my daughter Kathryn and I were scheduled to go to Kenya to conduct a conference on the Gospel of John for pastors and their wives. We made it to the airport counter, with tickets and COVID tests in hand, but were denied boarding because of a new requirement on the COVID test we were not aware of.
Well, we are going to try and go again this month. Lord willing, we will leave for Kenya on Aug 19. We are scheduled to stay there until Aug 31. While there I hope to speak at two churches as well as conducting the conference.
Exciting things are happening in Kenya. Kathryn and I were able to go before COVID became an issue. We work with a couple that is from Kenya. They run a school for children. They are solidly Free Grace and have a library of great Free Grace books that pastors can check out. They are the ones who are bringing the local pastors together for this conference. We hope to have around 100.
On this trip, we plan on bringing a LOT of good books, both for the pastors who attend the conference and for the library. Other speakers were recently there, and we hope to build upon their work.
As you might guess, most pastors in Kenya do not have access to good theological literature and do not have many opportunities to hear about grace. The concept of eternal security is foreign to many of them. Their traditions are strong and there is the strong influence of Islam in the country as well. We are hoping that this conference on John will give them not only the opportunity to hear Biblical truths, but a chance to ask any questions they might have.
This is a group effort. Many have contributed financially to what we are doing. Many have bought the books that we will give to the pastors and donate to the library. I know that many are praying for us as well. We appreciate all of your help!
Pray that the Lord’s will be done on this trip. Hopefully, His will is not that we are kept from going again because of COVID (or some other reason)! We are hoping that this area of Kenya becomes a center of Free Grace theology in Africa. If these pastors and churches can get a glimpse of Christ’s infinite grace for them, it can happen. The children who attend this school are certainly exposed to the teachings of grace. If the Lord delays His coming, who knows what impact they can have as well.
Being a part of this ministry with you all is a blessing for Kathryn and me. Thanks for all you do!
