Kenya, Free Grace, and COVID

Kenya, Free Grace, and COVID

February 18, 2021 by Ken Yates in Blog

This blog is an update on what my daughter Kathryn and I are planning on doing the last couple of weeks in February. Part of what we do for GES are pastors’ conferences in other countries. Covid has prevented us from doing this for the last several months.

However, as of this moment, we are scheduled (Lord willing) to go to Kenya to conduct a conference for approximately 60 pastors. We have been once before when Kathryn was also able to do a conference for the wives of the pastors. There is a great Free Grace couple in Kenya who sponsor us (hello, Catherine and Jimmy!).

On this trip, another Free Grace friend we have met through Zoom classes we have had because of Covid will also be going (hello, Wade!). He is looking at the opportunity of staying in Kenya permanently in order to have another Free Grace ministry there.

The conference will be on the Gospel of John. We will focus on the gospel of eternal life through faith alone. We will also be giving each pastor a copy of Bob’s new book that deals with 100 verses which teach that eternal salvation is a free gift by faith alone. In Kenya, Catherine and Jimmy have a great library of Free Grace material. It looks like the bookstore of the GES website. The pastors can check out these books whenever they want.

This trip is unique among all the trips we have made. We each must have a Covid test before we go, and we must have another one when we return. If either Kathryn or I test positive before we go, the trip will be cancelled. If we test positive on the way back, we will be quarantined there for two weeks. We are asking for your prayers as we travel and that the Covid tests will come back negative.

More importantly, pray for the conference. It would be so great if we can get GES material into the hands of these pastors, and they can begin to proclaim the gospel of grace. As you can imagine, many of these pastors have not had much sound theological teaching.

It is exciting to know that the Lord can use GES to get the message of grace out even in the midst of Covid!

“Have I Shown You My Iron Cross?”

I recently heard a story that I’m pretty confident is true. Most of us have seen pictures of the warehouses at Auschwitz. The Nazis collected all the personal effects—shoes, clothes, jewelry, toys, etc.—of those who died...

What Is Eschatological Salvation, and Do You Have It?

I don’t remember hearing the expression eschatological salvation when I was studying at Dallas Theological Seminary. But over the past thirty years or so I’ve noticed that expression occurring increasingly in the commentary literature. Some pastors are...
