GES tries to conduct several regional conferences during the year. This allows people who may not be able to attend the national conference in May to attend one closer to home.
Our next conference is scheduled for Mar 21-23 in Portland, OR. It will be held at the First Baptist Church of Portland. The pastor of the church is Matt Toupin.
We held a conference there last year, so this is the second time we are having a regional in Portland. The church is a historic part of downtown Portland, and its sanctuary is a beautiful work of architecture.
The conference is entitled “Seven Words to Walk the Roman World.” As the title indicates, we will be going through the Book of Romans and looking at common words found in the book. Bob Wilkin wrote a book, The Ten Most Misunderstood Words in the Bible. This conference will follow the pattern of Bob’s work, looking at certain key words in Romans. Romans is a book that is often misunderstood, and we hope this conference will clear up some of that confusion.
Ken Yates and Kathryn Wright will be the conference speakers. There will also be times to ask questions during the conference, which will have seven sessions spaced out on Friday and Saturday. There will also be a book table where you can purchase grace material. The books will be at reduced prices. There is a practical reason for that: Ken and Kathryn do not want to carry the books back to South Carolina.
On Sunday, Ken will speak at the church’s regular service. He will discuss the Syro-Phoenician woman in Mark 7 and explain how some of the things discussed in the conference apply to her. Believers today can learn a lot from her example.
Last year’s conference went very well, and we hope for the same results this year. These regionals are always a great time to get together with grace folks. There will be plenty of time for fellowship and opportunities to share meals with people at the conference.
Sometimes, people hear of these events after the fact and say they regret they didn’t know about the conference. If they had, they would have come. We hope to see you at the conference if you live in the Portland area. This would be especially beneficial if you are new to GES or grace teaching. It would also be an excellent opportunity for somebody who wants to know the message of grace.
We hope to see you there. You can find the complete schedule at GES’s website, faithalone.org.
