Dear Dr. Wilkin:
I believe I heard you say on one of the tapes I secured from GES that you had written your thesis at Dallas Seminary on the fifth point of Calvinism (perseverance). I am very interested in this topic…
The monthly newsletter and the Journal are very helpful. Would you write an article on perseverance for one or both of these publications? I believe the readers would be helped by such an article.
Thanks for all you and GES are doing to proclaim the message of the gospel of “faith alone.”
Sincerely,

Thank you for the suggestion. Perseverance is surely an important topic. As a result of your letter I chose to write on a famous perseverance passage, 1 John 3:9, this month. I also discussed this subject in two recent newsletters which came out just after I received your letter. In the January 1990 GES News I treated 2 Cor 5:17, a passage often used to prove perseverance. In this year’s February letter I discussed the concept of the inevitability of good works. I plan to write more articles on this subject in the GES News in the future as well.
After I finish the series I am doing on repentance for the Journal, I hope to write one or more articles on perseverance. While eternal security is surely true, the Reformed doctrine of the perseverance of the saints is like a bucket full of holes. It just won’t hold water.

Dear Bob,
I just received the latest publication by GES (October 1989 GES News) and it is excellent—especially the exposition of 2 Cor 13:5. What a blessing to hear the Word taught correctly.
